Direct .au registrations are now open for all to register.*

If your preferred .com.au, .net.au or .org.au domain name is already taken, now is the time to secure your direct .au registration.

.au direct is a popular choice amongst .au domain name holders (registrants) and is the second largest .au namespace following com.au.
It provides:

  • Greater choice of trusted, distinctly Australian domain names

  • Access to shorter, simpler website and email addresses

  • Domain names that are easier to type and display on mobile devices

  • A great option for new business ideas, marketing campaigns, one-off events, and personalised websites and email address.

What about contested domains?

Registrants of .au domain names registered before 24 March 2022 (e.g. ending in com.au, net.au, org.au) were able to participate in the Priority Allocation Process, which ran from 24 March to 20 September 2022. For more information please see the AU Domain Administration link below.

*To be eligible for a .au direct name you must have a verifiable Australian presence, which includes being a citizen or permanent resident or an organisation registered in Australia.
